proNAS 3.6

UNIFOSA ‘s new NAS product line based on proNAS 3.6 OS, now offering Enterprise and SMB complete data protection, great performance, with high reliability and scalability. It can efficiently and easily be integrated into existing IT infrastructures to handle demanding virtualization, database, data-intensive workloads, and video edition related applications.

Unified Storage

proNAS 3.6 is a unified storage system that integrates NAS (Network Attached Storage), Fibre SAN and IP SAN (iSCSI) to provide both file-level and block-level data access. There are various host interface such as 1Gb/s and 10Gb/s Ethernet, 8Gb/s Fiber channel, or 16Gb/s Fiber channel for options, so it’s very flexible for users to adopt the necessary interface to meet their specific application requirements.

proNAS 3.6 supports virtualization station (VM on NAS) and VMware VAAI to speed up performance under VMware environment. With virtualization station, you can create multiple virtual machines with various operating system such as Windows and Linux on the same NAS system, which saves lots of cost and ease server management aside from setting up several physical servers. Besides, VMware VAAI support can speed up VMware I/O operation when NAS applied to ESXi environment. This can greatly reduce resource overhead on server and further improve performance for storage intensive operations.

Comprehensive Data Protection and Data Backup

proNAS 3.6 supports RAID level 0,1,5,6,10,50,60 for data protection. It also supports SSD caching to speed up data access by leveraging SSDs. proNAS 3.6 has a fully-featured backup solution including manual or scheduled backup for file, folder, and shares, and it can be backup and restore from multiple local or remote devices. There are volume clone, snapshot, remote replication, and data copy for options, which are all designed to ensure and enhance your precious data. Also, proNAS integrates with several renowned backup software agents, and users can easily back up to the NAS when the backup agent enabled.

Efficient System Resource Utilization

proNAS 3.6 features thin-provisioning, compression and deduplication to optimize storage utilization. With thin-provisioning, proNAS 3.6 can designate more storage than the actual capacity. It simplifies storage capacity management and eliminates application downtime. proNAS 3.6 can compress data before writing to the storage, allowing for better storage utilization. Data deduplication can reduce the storage capacity since only unique data are stored while common files are shared. All these features will not only save cost but also utilize the storage.

There are total 8 models released for proNAS 3.6: Tower 5Bay DN-500A6B-CM, 1U 4Bay EN-1400A6B-CM, 2U 8Bay EN-2800S6B-CM.

Enterprise-class features

Data deduplication can sharply increase in storage efficiency and reduce total cost of ownership (TCO). This storage efficiency technology reduces the storage capacity requirements since only unique data is stored on disk and common components are shared. Deduplication removes duplicate blocks as be written to disk and enables users to store the maximum amount of data for the lowest possible cost. Users can also enjoy the benefits of enhanced write performance and saved energy by using less disk resources. Deduplication function is suitable not only for Big Data but also Cloud storage solutions.

Compression can provide massive storage benefits and offer great storage savings. It also provides increased throughput and performance due to the less data is being accessed and fewer I/O operations. The proNAS 3.6 can optionally compress data before writing to the storage pool, allowing for greater storage utilization and I/O efficiency. Compression shows significant benefit in compressible data applications such as databases.

SSD Caching

The proNAS 3.6 provides exceptional accelerated performance by using SSD caching, since SSDs offer significant performance benefits over traditional disk drives for applications requiring high random I/O performance, such as OLTP. With the SSD cache technology, frequently accessed data can be selected from the hard disk volumes to enable SSD cache for more efficient disk usage operation and accelerated storage performance.

Central manager

Central manager provides a centralized mechanism for configuring, reporting, and monitoring multiple proNAS units from a central point. Using centralized management reduces administrative complexity, simplifies and speeds-up configuration management by connecting multiple NAS units to minimize management efforts.

Virtualization can create multiple virtual machines to run various operating systems such as Windows and Linux. This flexibility enables companies to effectively use and manage resources. User can perform as a platform to run multiple operating systems for testing software and running applications that won't run on their desktop's native platform. Consolidate hardware can reduce hardware and maintenance costs and lower power consumption. Using Virtualization, user can get the advantages of cost savings and productivity and operational improvements.

VAAI (vStorage APIs for Array Integration) for both block and NFS storage Aside from VAAI support for block storage iSCSI and Fibre volumes, proNAS 3.6 also supports VAAI for NAS (NFS) to greatly improve VM performance. With VAAI support, VMs have great operation performance by offloading cycles from ESXi to storage and storage can be further effectively utilized by VMs.

High Availability

proNAS 3.6 offers up to 2 nodes active/standby high-availability service for storage which ensures no service down time when any NAS server failed. The HA service can automatically initiate a failover operation to transfer the data service to its partner storage systems to ensure data security.

All volumes can be configured with thin provisioning to optimize storage capacity and further reduce cost. With Thin provisioning support, proNAS can increase storage utilization by allowing dedicate more storage than the actual capacity. It also simplifies storage capacity management and eliminates application downtime.

Data backup and remote real-time replication Complete backup solution, including full, differential, and incremental two-way backup via attached storage (USB/eSATA/iSCSI/RDX/USM), or to remote share, Rsync server, and cloud storage.
