            Proware MULTI-PATH I/O (MPIO) DRIVER VERSION 1.8.3.4

This software package contains the Proware Multi-Path I/O (MPIO) Device
Specific Module (DSM) for Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server
2008. The driver was built with Microsoft MPIO Development Kit (MDK) version
1.21 build 2191 and Windows Driver Kit 6001.18001.

3. Default settings
   Dual path Active/Active with round robin load-balance.

4. Installation
   On Windows Server 2003, the Microsoft MPIO drivers and Plasmon's
   DSM are installed from this package.

   For Windows Server 2008 (LongHorn Server), MPIO is bundled with the OS.
   The install script automatically turns on the MPIO Optional Component
   (OC) feature if it is not already installed. there is no need to turn
   on the MPIO OC separately.

   Special Note for Install on LongHorn
   Do NOT use the GUI 3rd Party DSM install method using mpiocpl.exe.
   Use only the supplied script to install MPIO & DSM.

   Procedure to install MPIO & DSM
   a) Unzip epica_mpio_<release>_<platform>.zip
   b) Open a command window and go to epica_mpio_<release>_<platform>\ directory
   c) Run mpio_install.BAT
   d) Reboot system after drivers are installed

5. Uninstallation
   To uninstall, use the same package directory that was used during Install.

   Procedure to uninstall MPIO & DSM
   a) Open a command window and go to the epica_mpio_<release>_<platform>\
      directory for the installed Proware DSM.
   b) Run mpio_uninstall.BAT
   c) Reboot system after drivers are uninstalled.

6. MPIO and DSM Downgrades on Windows Server 2003
   On Windows Server 2003, it is not recommended to downgrade the Proware
   DSM from current version 1.8.3.4 to a previous version. however, if you
   do downgrade, the new Microsoft's MPIO Bus Driver may not get uninstalled.
   If that happens, you need to manually uninstall it using the Windows Device
   Manager. The procedure is explained next. After you manually uninstall the
   new MPIO Bus Driver, the older DSM package will install correctly. Do not
   forget to follow the displayed instructions to reboot when recommended.

   Procedure to manually uninstall Microsoft MPIO Bus Driver and Port Filter
   a) Microsoft MPIO Bus Driver : mpio.sys
   b) MPIO Port Filter          : mpspfltr.sys
   c) Invoke Device Manager.
   d) Expand section SCSI and RAID controllers.
   e) Select Multi-Path Support.
   f) Right-click to bring up Properties window.
   g) Select Driver tab.
   h) Click on Uninstall button.
   i) Confirm Device Removal by clicking OK in the new pop-up window.
   j) Restart the computer when appropriate.
   k) After reboot, confirm that Multi-Path Support is no longer present
      in Device Manager.
   l) You can now install the previous Proware DSM version.

7. Special BIOS settings for QLogic HBA
   From the 'Configuration Settings' menu in Fast!UTIL, select
   'Advanced Adapter Settings'.
   a. Set PORT DOWN RETRY COUNT = 0 
   b. Set LINK DOWN TIMEOUT = 0

   The failover time depends on command timeout value set by windows. Default
   value is 60 seconds. Users can modify this value to speed failover process
   by setting 
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Disk\TimeOutValue
   to 10 seconds.
